I had the EMG PJ Set Active Bass Guitar Set, Black for about 18 months before I just felt like something was missing. Enter the BTS system. I already had four holes drilled in my bass, so it was easy to put these guys in play with the EMG pickups I already had installed. Combining the PJ actives with this BTS system is warm and fuzzy all over. I've been able to shape tones and get everything from velvet and buttery to punchy and bright just by turning a few knobs.I had initially set it up wrong (VERY wrong) but EMG support got me back on track. These have little to no noise at all when adjusting, and runs great off the single 9V battery. I had considered getting the stacked midrange, but because of where the circuits are on this setup, I'd be forced to drill another hole (can't stack the bass and treble pots, as one contains the curve shaping for the highs).I thought there might be some compromised loss by going from individual volume on my pickups to the blended model, but it actually does sound better. Mind you that both setups were all EMG.I'm using the Ernie Ball Cobalt Hybrid Slinky Bass Strings, 45-105 with them. I did notice that I needed some pickup height adjustment I put in this system (lowering them), but once I found the right height the tone is simply fantastic.
